Dačov (Hungarian Décső , older even Decső ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 731 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Sabinov , a district of the Prešovský kraj , as well as to the traditional Šariš landscape .

The municipality is located in the Spišsko-šarišské medzihorie mountain range below the Bachureň Mountains to the south on the Ďačovský creek in the catchment area of ​​the Upper Torysa . The center of the village is located at an altitude of 468  m nm and is three and a half kilometers from Lipany and 14 kilometers from Sabinov .

Neighboring municipalities are Krivany in the north, Lipany in the northeast, Dubovica in the east and south, Vysoká in the southwest and Torysa in the west.

history

Greek Catholic Archangel Michael Church

Ďačov was founded at the beginning of the 14th century under German law and was first mentioned in writing in 1338 as Deychehalma . At that time the village was owned by the Tekule dynasty ; in 1350 it was part of the Kamenica Castle . In 1427 32 porta were recorded according to a tax register. Later on, families like Dessewffy , Tahy , Berzeviczy and Palocsay had estates in the village. In 1787 the village had 55 houses and 400 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 74 houses and 542 inhabitants who were employed as farmers, fruit growers and carters.

The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic, Ďačov was an agricultural village. After the Second World War, part of the population worked in industrial plants in cities such as Sabinov, Prešov and Košice .

According to the 2011 census, Ďačov had 752 inhabitants, including 750 Slovaks and one Russian . One resident gave no information about ethnicity .

411 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church and 333 residents to the Greek Catholic Church. Six residents had no denomination and two residents had no denomination.
