Uzovce (until 1927 Slovak "Usovce" or "Husovce"; Hungarian Úszfalva - until 1907 Úszfalu ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 539 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Sabinov , a district of the Prešovský kraj , as well as to the traditional Šariš landscape .
geography
The municipality is located in the northern part of the Šarišská vrchovina mountain range below the Čergov Mountains in the Torysa catchment area . The center of the village is at an altitude of 473 m nm and is nine kilometers from Sabinov .
Neighboring municipalities are Šarišské Sokolovce in the north, Hubošovce in the east, Gregorovce in the south, Šarišské Michaľany in the southwest and Jakubovany in the west.
history
Uzovce was first mentioned in writing as Uzfalua in 1280 . In 1427 it was taxed at 11 Porta and belonged to the Úsz family until the first half of the 19th century . In 1787 the village had 23 houses and 239 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 45 houses and 346 inhabitants who were employed as farmers and linen weavers. Many residents emigrated towards the middle of the 19th century.
The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. There was a distillery in Uzovce until 1946.

According to the 2011 census, Uzovce had 525 inhabitants, including 506 Slovaks , two Czechs and one Ukrainian . 16 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
489 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 13 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, three residents to the Evangelical Church AB and two residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses. One resident had no denomination and the denomination of 17 residents was not determined.
