Ratvaj (until 1927 Slovak and "Ratvajovce"; Hungarian Ratvaj ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 139 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Sabinov , a district of the Prešovský kraj , as well as to the traditional Šariš landscape .
geography
The community is located on the south-eastern slope of the Čergov Mountains in the Torysa catchment area . The center of the village is at an altitude of 419 m nm and is ten kilometers from Sabinov .
Neighboring municipalities are Terňa in the north and east, Hubošovce in the south and Bodovce in the west.
history
Ratvak was first mentioned in writing as Rathway in 1374 , at that time as a property of the Tekule family . In 1427 a tax register recorded 18 portals . The village was later owned by the Gombos family , and in the 19th century the Péchy family owned local estates . In 1787 the village had 17 houses and 130 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 20 houses and 156 inhabitants who were employed as farmers. There were several waves of emigration between 1850 and 1890.
The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In the first Czechoslovak Republic agriculture, livestock farming and forest work were the main sources of income for the population.

According to the 2011 census, 140 inhabitants lived in Ratvaj, including 138 Slovaks , one Russian and one inhabitant of another ethnic group .
131 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, six residents the Greek Catholic Church and one resident of the Orthodox Church. The denomination of one resident was not determined.
