Bodovce was first mentioned in writing in 1427 as Bodonlaka and in the same year had to pay a tax of 15 porta . The place name should be made up of the name Bodon and the Hungarian word lak for settlement. At that time the village was owned by the Tekule family , from the 16th to the 19th century the Zombory family owned local estates with several interruptions. In 1600 there were 13 houses in the village, exclusively inhabited by subjects. In 1787 the village had 23 houses and 185 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 34 houses and 262 inhabitants.
The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
