Cheech & Chong's Nice Dreams (Original title: Cheech and Chong's Nice Dreams ) is an American comedy film by the comedy duo Cheech and Chong from 1981.

action

Cheech and Chong don't sell ice cream from their ice cream van, but marijuana , which they have diverted from their neighbor Jimmy's drug plantation. Business is flourishing, and the two imagine buying a tropical island with the fortune. The drug investigators around Sgt. Stedanko are on their heels and Stedanko gets a sample of the substance. When he tries this, he quickly becomes addicted to it and begins to behave strange. Cheech and Chong manage to escape shortly before the police storm their house, which arrests the neighbor Jimmy and closes his plantation. While Stedanko slowly turns into a lizard as a side effect of the drugs, his employees Det. Drooler and Noodles remain on the trail of Cheech and Chong.

These come to a Chinese restaurant . There Chong is initially mistaken for Jerry Garcia , then Cheech's ex-girlfriend Donna shows up with Howie. The four of them sniff cocaine together , and under the influence of the drug, Chong transfers all of her wealth to Howie. Cheech tried meanwhile with Donna a tryst in the car hold, but she falls asleep. He is then being checked by two traffic police when suddenly Chong pulls up the ice cream van. The incompetent officers are so overwhelmed by Chong's folly that they let them go.

Cheech and Chong go to Donna's apartment to have a threesome with her. When Chong leaves the room for a moment, the rocker Animal, Donna's husband, who has broken out of prison suddenly appears. Cheech escapes the window naked and clings to the parapet . Chong hides under the bed. When Animal falls asleep, the two manage to escape.

Cheech suddenly realizes that Chong has transferred all of her money to Howie. They unknowingly hitchhiked to Howie's address with drug investigators in disguise, Drooler and Noodles. This turns out to be a psychiatric clinic , where they find Howie only after a long search. However, Cheech is mistaken for a patient and placed in a straitjacket , while Chong is mistaken for a doctor. Chong then receives LSD from Timothy Leary , which has different effects on the two: While Chong falls asleep blissfully, Cheech experiences a bizarre drug trip that only ends when he is woken up by a nurse the next morning.

Just as the misunderstandings are cleared up, the drug investigators burst in around Sgt. Stedanko and arrest Howie and the nurse. Without their money and without supplies for their ice cream truck, Cheech and Chong travel to their tropical island, where they have to work as strippers .

synchronization

In contrast to the previous film, both main characters were dubbed by different speakers. Thomas Danneberg took over for Heinz Freitag , and with Manfred Lehmann Cheech Marin received the same voice as in the first part of the trilogy, Much Smoke About Nothing .

production

Cheech and Chong had not only landed a surprise hit three years earlier with Much Smoke About Nothing , but also founded the film genre of the stoner movie . After even more smoke about nothing at all , the trilogy about the two stoners was brought to a close with Cheech & Chong's hot dreams . The premiere in German cinemas took place on October 23, 1981.

criticism

"Casual series of poorly told episodes with chatty dialogue and a number of half-baked gags."
