Heinz Freitag (dubbing director)

Heinz Freitag (born April 11, 1941 in Berlin ; † March 13, 2018 there ) was a German dubbing director and author .

Life

Freitag grew up in Berlin-Spandau, where he graduated from high school. He took acting lessons from Paul Günther and initially spent a few years at the Städtische Bühnen in Cologne, writing texts for the local cabaret theater "Die Machtwächter". After working as a production and assistant director, as well as songwriter and screenwriter, he came to dubbing in the 1970s.

Up until his death, Freitag was one of the most sought-after and busiest dubbing directors in Germany. a. Responsible for editing the series Hart but cordially , Listen, who hammers there (1st TV synchronization for ARD), Die Munsters , Yes Minister or Transparent . The list of titles he has edited spans more than 300 films and includes works such as The Elephant Man , The Witches of Eastwick , The Pianist , and Nashville by Robert Altman. Other highlights of his work were Twin Peaks - Der Film , Oldboy , The Broken Circle , Fahrenheit 9/11 , The Square , the works of Henry Jaglom , Zhang Yimou (including Red Cornfield and Hero ) and Chen Kaige and Moloch von Sokurow . Since working on Mephisto, he had a lifelong friendship with István Szabó and the Berlin producer Manfred Durniok , which led to the synchronization of all Szabó films. He was also responsible for the later editing of the Hart but cordially films.

Friday died after a short, serious illness on March 13, 2018 in Berlin. He leaves behind his wife and a daughter.
