Transparent (English portmanteau composed of transgender and Parent ) is a US Dramedyserie that of Jill Soloway for the video-on-demand -Anbieter Amazon Instant Video is produced. Jeffrey Tambor plays a transsexual in the series .

The third season of the series was first released on September 23, 2016 in the original English version and German dubbed version. Even before the previously announced third season was released, the series was extended by a fourth season.

After harassment allegations were raised against the lead actor Jeffrey Tambor by some set members , Jill Soloway, the creator of the series, announced that it will end after five seasons and that Tambor will no longer appear in the final fifth season.

The series revolves around the life of the Pfefferman family, which consists of trans woman Maura (initially Mort) and her ex-wife Shelly as well as their three adult children Sarah, Josh and Ali. Maura is a pensioner, formerly a professor and political scientist. The life of the family from Los Angeles changes suddenly when Maura / Mort comes out as transsexual and decides to go on living as a woman with the name Maura.

Cast and dubbing

The first two seasons were set to music at TaunusFilm Synchron in Berlin . Arena Synchron , also in Berlin, has been responsible for the synchronization since the third season .

Heinz Freitag wrote the dialogue books for the first two seasons and also directed the dialogue. Since the third season, Oliver Feld has been writing the dialogue books together with Hans-Achim Günther and directing the dialogue.

Production and distribution

In August 2013, Jeffrey Tambor for the central leading role in the Amazon pilots transparency obligation. After the pilot episode was published on Amazon Instant Video on February 6, 2014, Amazon ordered a series to pilot in mid-March 2014. The first season, which consists of nine episodes and a modified form of the pilot episode, was released on September 26, 2014. In October 2014, the extension for a second season was announced. A third season was commissioned on June 25, 2015, shortly before the start of filming for the second season.

In Germany, the first season has also been available in the original language since September 26, 2014. The German dubbed version has been available since April 10, 2015.

The second season was released on December 11, 2015 on Amazon Instant Video in English with optional subtitles. The German version was published on January 29, 2016.
