Primetime Emmy Awards 2016
The 68th Emmy Awards in the Prime Time category (originally: 68th Primetime Emmy Awards ) took place on September 18, 2016 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles ( California ). The nominations were announced on July 14, 2016 by Anthony Anderson and Lauren Graham . Programs that were broadcast between June 1, 2015 and May 31, 2016 were taken into account. In the United States, the awards ceremony will be broadcast on ABC . The comedian and presenter Jimmy Kimmel moderated the event.
The Creative Arts Emmy Awards had previously been presented on September 10 and 11, 2016. They honor television professionals in technical categories such as production design , costumes , camera or editing .
Nominations and winners
On July 14, 2016, Anthony Anderson and Lauren Graham announced the 567 nominations. It was the largest number of nominations in the history of the Emmy Awards, which made for a particularly creative television year. In contrast to the 2016 Academy Awards , where the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was exposed to growing criticism because only white actors received nominations in the actor categories, which resulted in the demand for more diversity, the Emmy Nominated 18 colored actors, many African American and some openly homosexual. For the first time in the 68-year history of the Emmy Awards, People of Color were also nominated in each of the six acting categories . Aziz Ansari was also the first actor of Indian origin to receive an Emmy nomination for best actor in a comedy series.
Most nominations (including nominations for the Creative Arts Emmy Awards) went to the series Game of Thrones (23), followed by the series American Crime Story (22) and Fargo (18).
