Rami Said Malek (born May 12, 1981 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American actor . He was best known for the role of hacker Elliot Alderson on the television series Mr. Robot in 2015 , for which he received an Emmy and a Critics' Choice Television Award .

For his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in the music biopic Bohemian Rhapsody he received in 2019 a Golden Globe as Best Actor in a Drama and Oscar as Best Actor .

life and career

Malek was born in Los Angeles in 1981 to Coptic parents from Egypt . His father was a tour guide in Cairo and later an insurance broker. Malek's mother is an accountant . He has an identical twin brother who is a teacher and a sister who practices as a trauma doctor in Washington, DC . Malek studied acting at the University of Evansville in Indiana until he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2003 .

Malek became known to a wider audience as Kenny in the sitcom Family Quarrel de Luxe . He has also had guest roles on episodes of Series 24 , Medium , Gilmore Girls and Over There . In the comedies Night in the Museum , Night in Museum 2 and Night in the Museum: He played the mysterious tomb as Pharaoh Ahkmenrah . He also had a role in the ten-part miniseries The Pacific as Merriell "Snafu" Shelton .

In 2012, Malek played the role of Benjamin in the fifth part of the Twilight saga Breaking Dawn - Bite to the End of the Night, Part 2 . Further film and television appearances followed. 2015 he borrowed the figure Josh in the survival horror - Computer game Until Dawn his looks and his voice. Since the same year he has played the lead role as Elliot Alderson in Sam Esmail's television series Mr. Robot , which won him an Emmy and a Critics' Choice Television Award in 2016 .
