Andre Braugher (born July 1, 1962 in Chicago ) is an American actor .

Life and accomplishments

Braugher attended St. Ignatius College Prep High School . He graduated from Stanford University in Dramatic Arts in 1984 and from the Juilliard School in New York in 1988 .

Braugher played his first film role in 1989 in the war drama Glory , in which he starred alongside Matthew Broderick , Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman . In 1993, he starred in the thriller Close to Death on the side of Bruce Willis , Sarah Jessica Parker and Dennis Farina .

From 1993 to 1998 Braugher starred in the television series Homicide . For his role in it he was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1996 and won the award in 1998. In 1997 he was nominated for a Golden Satellite Award , in 1997 and 1998 he won a Television Critics Association Award . In 1995 he won a Viewers for Quality Television Award , for which he was nominated again in 1998. In 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999 there were nominations for the Image Award .

Braugher played the role of Cassiel , a friend of the angel Seth , played by Nicolas Cage in the 1998 film drama City of Angels . In 2001, he won a Blockbuster Entertainment Award for his role in the SF thriller Frequency (2000), in which he appeared alongside Dennis Quaid and James Caviezel . Also in 2000, he played the role of Reggie Kane , a former prisoner who befriends Todd Woods ( Paul Giamatti ) in the comedy Dream Couples. He was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy for his participation in the doctor series Gideon's Crossing in 2000 and 2001 . He received another Emmy in 2006 for his role in the pilot for the television series Thief .

In 1996 Braugher played the lead role in Shakespeare's Henry V at the Delacorte Theater in New York's Central Park . For this role he was honored with an Obie Award .

Braugher has been married to actress Ami Brabson since 1991. The two have three sons (* 1992, 1996 and 2003).

In 2018 he was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
