Henry Albert "Hank" Azaria (born April 25, 1964 in Queens , New York City ) is an American actor and voice actor .

Career

Hank Azaria was first known to American audiences as the voice of various characters in the animated series The Simpsons . There he gives voice to the following characters, among others: Moe Szyslak , Chief Clancy Wiggum , Apu Nahasapeemapetilon and the comic book seller .

In addition to his voice acting, he can also be seen as a regular actor in various series and films. He played the dog handler Nat in 14 episodes in the sitcom Crazy About You , in which his long-time girlfriend and later wife Helen Hunt played the leading role . In the sitcom Friends he played in five episodes in three different seasons David , a nuclear physicist and friend or ex-boyfriend of Phoebe Buffay . In 2004 he got the title role in the television series Huff - Reif für die Couch , the series came to 25 episodes in two seasons.

Azaria has worked in several lavish television productions and has received the American Emmy television award several times . In the cinema, however, he was initially only seen in supporting roles. Azaria comes from a Greek - Jewish family. In late 2000, his marriage to Helen Hunt was divorced after a year.

In 2018 he was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
