Reginald "Reg" E. Cathey (born August 18, 1958 in Huntsville , Alabama , † February 9, 2018 in New York City , New York ) was an American actor . Cathey was best known for his roles as Norman Wilson in The Wire , Martin Querns in Oz - Hell Behind Bars and Freddy Hayes in House of Cards .

Life

Reg Cathey was born in the United States, but spent his childhood in Germany. Since 1984 he has worked in more than 80 film and television productions.

Cathey had one of his first television appearances on the children's show Square One . This was followed by guest appearances in Spaceship Enterprise - The Next Century and Homicide . In 1994 he embodied the Freeze in The Mask . In 2013, Cathey took on the role of Freddy Hayes , who owns Freddy's BBQ in the House of Cards series , and the role of Baron Samedi in Grimm . In 2015, he played the role of Dr. in the Marvel remake Fantastic Four. Franklin Storm , the father of Johnny and Susan Storm. Cathey died in New York City in February 2018 at the age of 59 from complications from lung cancer .

At the 2014 Emmy Awards , Cathey was nominated for Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Freddy Hayes in House of Cards and received the award for his second nomination in 2015 . In 2016 Cathey was again nominated for an Emmy for Best Guest Actor.
