Tyler "Ty" Gerald Burrell (born August 22, 1967 in Grants Pass , Oregon ) is an American actor .

Life

Burrell grew up with three siblings. After graduating from Hidden Valley High School in Grants Pass , he studied at Southern Oregon University through 1993 and graduated with a bachelor's degree in drama . He then completed a Masters at Pennsylvania State University by 1997 .

In 1996 he made his debut on the award-winning television series Ellen . In the SF comedy Evolution (2001) he starred on the side of David Duchovny and Julianne Moore . In the comedy Reine Chefsache (2004) he starred alongside Dennis Quaid and Scarlett Johansson . In 2005 and 2006 he appeared on the television series Out of Practice alongside Stockard Channing and Jennifer Tilly .

Burrell starred in the comedy Friends with Money (2006) opposite Jennifer Aniston . In the film drama Fell - Eine Liebesgeschichte (2006) he played the role of Allan Arbus , husband of Diane Arbus , who played Nicole Kidman . For the role of the family man Phil Dunphy in the series Modern Family (2009-2020) he won an Emmy for best supporting actor in a comedy series in 2011 and 2014 .

Burrell also appeared in several plays. He is married and has a daughter.
