Allan Arbus

Allan Arbus (born February 15, 1918 in New York City , † April 19, 2013 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor and photographer .

Life

Allan Arbus learned photography in the US Army during World War II . He then worked as a photographer in New York City and from 1946 ran an advertising photo studio with his wife Diane , with whom he had been married since 1941. The couple had two children, Doon (* 1945) and Amy (* 1954). Diane Arbus left the studio in 1957. The couple separated in 1959 and divorced in 1969. Allan ran the studio on his own, but took acting classes on the side.

In 1961 he had his first role as the doctor in the musical film Hey, Let's Twist . He became known for the role of the military psychiatrist Major Sidney Freedman in the television series MASH , in which he appeared in 12 episodes. During this time he also played major roles in movies, such as the Mafioso in Coffy - the big cat (1973). In addition to other small film roles such as Damien - Omen II , he also had guest roles in TV series such as Hawaii Five-Zero , Quincy , Matlock , and Hunter .

In the film adaptation Fur: ​​An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus , Arbus was played by Ty Burrell . In 1977 Arbus married the actress Mariclare Costello .
