Damien - Omen II is a horror film by the American director Don Taylor from 1978. The film was released two years after the first part and is the second in the The Omen series. The films below are Barbara's Baby - Omen III and Omen IV: The Awakening .
action
The film is set seven years after the events of The Omen . Damien Thorn is now twelve years old and lives with his wealthy uncle Richard Thorn in Chicago , who is the owner of Thorn Industries. He and his cousin Mark are sent to a military academy whose instructor suggests that he is the Antichrist . During this time, anyone who stands in Damien's way of seizing power or knows of his identity as an Antichrist, including his cousin, dies under mysterious circumstances.
At first his uncle does not want to hear about the conspiracy of the Antichrist and ignores all hints; but when he recognizes Damien's face on the wall paintings of the Antichrist, he makes the decision to kill his adopted son. To do this, he uses the seven daggers from the first part (which are the only way to kill the Antichrist in the film series). His wife, who overhears what is happening, at the end stabs her husband to death when he demands the daggers from her and then says "I've only ever belonged to him". Then she calls Damien, but Damien does not come and she is burned alive.
Filming
The film was produced in Los Angeles , other locations were Chicago, Illinois and Lake Geneva and Eagle River in Wisconsin . The opening scenes were recorded in Israel .
Originally, Mike Hodges had been offered to direct the previous film, but he declined. He eventually began directing the sequel Damien - Omen II , but was fired after three weeks due to artistic differences. However, some scenes by Mike Hodges have been retained.
Reviews
The reactions to Damien - Das Omen II were mixed due to the high expectations after the success of the first part. It was criticized that some scenes seemed unintentionally funny, such as when a raven pecks out a woman's eyes and a truck hits her on the street. Nevertheless, there are also positive reviews:
"Even if the pattern of the predecessor is repeated here: It remains creepy and exciting."
"The second part of the shocker created in the" Exorcist "successor also offers hair-raising horror entertainment with perfectly staged special effects."
The score , composed by Jerry Goldsmith , received very good reviews, just like its predecessor.
Gross profit
Although the film was not able to build on the worldwide success of its predecessor, it was commercially successful and grossed over 25 million dollars in the USA.
novel
Joseph Howard wrote the novel shortly after the film was released, which quickly became a bestseller in the United States.
