Miriam Vlaming (born September 18, 1971 in Hilden ) is a Dutch painter . She lives and works in Berlin.

Life

Miriam Vlaming studied painting and graphics at the Leipzig College of Graphics and Book Art with Arno Rink and Neo Rauch . She graduated with distinction in 1999 and then became Arno Rinks' master class student for two years.

The artist, who accepted a teaching position after completing her studies (2001 to 2003) and taught at the 14th International Dresden Summer Academy for Fine Arts in 2011, shows her works at numerous international solo exhibitions. The show You Promised Me brought in 2008 at the Kunsthalle Mannheim around 50 paintings together. Her works are represented in public collections and museums, including the Von der Heydt Museum in Wuppertal, the Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig, the Altana Cultural Foundation, the Deutsche Bundesbank's art collection and the Robert Bosch GmbH corporate collection.

From her early creative periods on, Miriam Vlaming was already concerned with the symbiosis of man and nature. A characteristic of her works is the fusion of the canvas protagonists with the floral ornamentation that surrounds them. While she explores the relationships between humans and natural as well as urban living spaces, Vlaming very often lets her figures disappear into their environment or emerge from it. It is not uncommon for Vlaming's figures to grow out of the wild structures of the landscape - as if nature were giving birth to people. The artist raises the question of human identity and incarnation as the central theme of her work.

During her last creative years, Vlaming steadily developed into a visual anthropologist, researching the central topic of humans in harmony with or in conflict with nature as well as human nature itself. In doing so, the artist explores the aspects of the domestication of nature on the part of humans, which contrast with the beliefs and values that characterize humans so uniquely.

Miriam Vlaming's painting moves between figuration and abstraction . She prefers to work with egg tempera on large-format canvas. Alienation, distortion, memory, falsification and destruction are the elementary concepts of her painting. Her pictures are created during a long process in which both the destruction of the painting surface and the reapplication form a cycle.
