It is located west of Leuna city center on the east side of Spergauer Straße. The Leuna-Werke premises extend directly to the west of the Kulturhaus .

Facility

The house of culture is used as a congress and conference center. There are several large halls. The largest is the Carl Bosch Hall on the upper floor with a full theater stage; other halls are the Walter Bauer Hall, the Matthias Pier Hall and the Fritz Haber Hall. There are also two so-called guest rooms.

Architecture and history

The culture house was built in 1927/28 by BASF as a company building for Ammoniakwerke Merseburg GmbH based on a design by Karl Barth . The design was based on the style of the classicist mansions in the region. The rear stage, however, shows elements of modernity . The floor plan of the building is rectangular and the building is covered by a hipped roof . The building rests on a high ground floor plinth. It has two full floors and one mezzanine floor . The center of the building is a five-axis large central projections stresses, which is surmounted by a triangular gable. On the ground floor there is a large open entrance hall with arched arcades. A representative foyer is arranged behind the hall . In front of the house there was a wide, curved driveway and a wide flight of stairs. The generous forecourt to the west of the house was initially designed in the form of a courtyard .

After severe bomb damage during the Second World War in April 1945 (among other things, the ceiling collapsed) it was reopened in 1946 as the clubhouse for the workers of the Leuna-Werke. The stage was newly added in the course of the reconstruction. It was used for cultural activities by the workforce such as theaters, choirs and dance groups, but also for brigade events and major public events by GDR parties and mass organizations. On November 3rd and 4th, 1958, a chemistry conference of the Central Committee of the SED and the State Planning Commission of the GDR was held here. The participants included Walter Ulbricht , Erich Correns , Erich Apel , Bruno Leuschner and Otto Grotewohl .

In 1994/95 the facade, roof and building services were renovated. On April 10, 1997 the Förderverein Kulturhaus Leuna eV was founded. From January 1, 1998 the culture house belonged to cCe Kulturhaus Leuna GmbH , a subsidiary of InfraLeuna GmbH . In mid-1998 the house was renamed cCe Kulturhaus Leuna . Further renovations concerned the repair of rooms, seating, lighting and stage technology. The original room layout has been preserved inside the building.

The cultural center is listed in the local monument register under registration number 094 20785 as a monument .

In 1998 a gallery with an exhibition area of around 250 m² was set up in the Kulturhaus. At the end of the same year, the MAXX restaurant with 180 seats opened in the house. In addition to the friends' association, the house also receives support from the city of Leuna and companies in the region.

On the occasion of the centenary of Leuna-Werke on March 3, 2016, Chancellor Angela Merkel and Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff spoke in the Kulturhaus.
