Don Taylor

Don Taylor (born December 13, 1920 in Freeport , Pennsylvania , United States , † December 29, 1998 in Los Angeles , California , United States) was an American film and television director, actor, producer and screenwriter.

Life

Don Taylor studied language and drama at Pennsylvania State University . In 1943 he began his career in the film business as an actor, in the same year he was drafted into the United States Army and starred in several productions of the United States Army Air Forces . He was under contract with MGM . From 1957 he worked as a director. He mainly shot episodes from various television series. With the film Escape from the Planet of the Apes , he shot the second sequel to Planet of the Apes in 1971 . In 1978 he directed the first sequel to the horror classic The Omen . He got the job because the originally intended director Mike Hodges had left the production due to creative differences.

For his work on The Island of Dr. Moreau was Taylor nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Director in 1978 . In 1964 he was nominated for an Emmy for directing the television series The Farmer's Daughter .

He was married twice. He was married to actress Phyllis Avery from 1945 to 1955, and they have two children from this marriage. In 1964 he married Hazel Court , who also worked as an actress , with her he had a son and a daughter. Don Taylor is buried in Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery .
