action
Towards the end of the 12th century. The English King Richard the Lionheart was kidnapped on his way home after a victorious crusade and now languishes as a prisoner of the German Emperor Heinrich VI. on his imperial castle Trifels . Meanwhile in England Richard's traitorous brother John plans to assassinate the rightful ruler as soon as he returns home. For John this would mean that the crown and with it power over the country would go to him. But there are quite a few in England who want to prevent such an outrage by all means, above all the daredevil Robin Hood. This patriot lives in the woods of Sherwood with a handful of followers . The group leads a daring adventure life and has its sights primarily on the wealthy of the country. As soon as they get their hands on one, they rob it and distribute the booty to the poor.
After Robin learns that the influential Sir Belton is on John's side, he sneaks into his castle, disguised as a minstrel. The lady Alys, the niece of the landlord, who is staying there, lets herself be infatuated by his flattering chants and succumbs to his charm. Another stranger on Robin's side finds entry: the hard-drinking friar Tuck. He pretends to be a high ecclesiastical dignitary because he comes in the guise of an abbot that he recently won at a game of chance.
It doesn't take long until Robin and Tuck are exposed by John's informers and locked in the castle dungeon. However, after Alys hears what her uncle intends, she uses a trick to free the two prisoners. At the last minute they manage to save the returning Richard the Lionheart from a terrible fate in a daring fight.
criticism
"A lively and fun entertainment for children."
“Quite amusing and colorful, but also hardly original Robin Hood story. The humor mainly relies on the idiotic villains and 'Brother Tuck' (Reginald Beckwith), who 'invents' roulette, poker and other games of chance - and practices it very successfully. The eternal question, of course: Who actually decided that Robin Hood and his men had to constantly laugh 'heartily'? That can get on your nerves at some point ... "
