Douglas Wilmer

Douglas Wilmer (born January 8, 1920 in London , † March 31, 2016 in Ipswich , England ) was a British actor .

Life

Douglas Wilmer was born in London in 1920 and studied at Stonyhurst College . He completed his acting training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art , and made his stage debut in rugby in 1945 .

Wilmer made his first major film appearance in Laurence Olivier's Shakespeare film Richard III. (1955). He was then seen in a variety of films, mainly as a supporting actor. From 1964 he appeared in a series produced by the BBC as Sherlock Holmes . In 2012 he had a guest role in Der Reichenbachfall , the finale of the second season of the TV series Sherlock, also produced by the BBC .

Douglas Wilmer died at the age of 96 after a brief illness at Ipswich Hospital in Suffolk , England.
