The Strážske – Prešov railway is a main line in Slovakia . It runs from Strážske first through the East Slovakian lowlands and the city of Vranov nad Topľou , then through the Topľatal , before reaching the northern foothills of the Kosice Basin in Prešov .

history

The route from Kapušany pri Prešove to Prešov was originally part of the local railway from Prešov to Bardejov . The line was opened on December 11, 1893.

The railway line from Strážske to Kapušany was built during the First Slovak Republic . Since the only railway to the east after Slanské vrchy after the First Vienna Arbitration (1938) ran partly through Hungarian territory, construction began on a railway from Prešov to Humenné, which could bypass the occupied territories. This line was opened on September 5, 1943. It was also the only new building that was completed by the Slovenské železnice (SŽ) railway company .

Current condition

There are local trains and some express trains that start in Bratislava and end in Humenné .
