Nižný Hrabovec (Hungarian Alsógyertyán - until 1902 Alsóhrabóc ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia .
geography
The municipality of Nižný Hrabovec lies on the Ondava , which, together with its tributary Topľa, forms an almost ten kilometer wide valley and thus a north-western bulge of the eastern Slovak lowlands . The town of Vranov nad Topľou is six kilometers from Nižný Hrabovec. Nižný Hrabovec is surrounded by the neighboring communities Kučín in the north, Strážske in the northeast, Pusté Čemerné in the southeast, Poša in the south, Dlhé Klčovo in the southwest and Hencovce in the west.
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1260. In addition to the Roman Catholic Church, there is a Greek Catholic Church in the parish from 1825.
Economy and Infrastructure
An industrial area extends over 2.5 km² between Nižný Hrabovec and the neighboring village of Hencovce . This is where the Bukóza Holding, as company is located , a wood processing company which, in addition to various sawing products, produces cellulose and operates a power plant.
The trunk road 18 from Prešov to Michalovce and the parallel railway line run through the village in a west-east direction, and trunk road 554 ( Havaj - Oborín ) crosses trunk road 18 in a north-south direction.

With 1600 inhabitants (August 2008) Nižný Hrabovec is one of the larger municipalities in Okres Vranov nad Topľou . The population consists of 94% Slovaks , 5% are Roma . 73% of the population profess to the Roman Catholic Church , 20% stated that their denomination was Greek Catholic .
Personalities
The Hungarian art historian and cultural scientist János Mácza was born on August 4, 1893 in Nižný Hrabovec.
