Ondavské matiašovce (until 1946 Slovak "Matiašovce" - to 1927 "Maťášovce"; Hungarian Zemplénmátyás - until 1907 Matyasóc ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 794 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which in Okres Vranov nad Topľou , part des Prešovský kraj , and belongs to the traditional Zemplín landscape .
geography
The municipality is located at the transition from the Lower Beskids to the so-called hill country of Pozdišovce (Slovak Pozdišovská pahorkatina ), a part of the East Slovak lowlands , in the Ondava valley . The center of the village is at an altitude of 133 m nm and is 11 kilometers from Vranov nad Top entferntou .
Neighboring municipalities are Žalobín in the north, Štefanovce in the northeast, Tovarné in the east and south, Sedliská in the southwest, Benkovce in the west and Malá Domaša in the northwest.
history
The present community originated in the 13th and 14th centuries and was first mentioned in writing in 1451 in a document from the Leles convent as Mathiasfalva . There the division of the old territory of Brekov and Jasenov between two branches of the Drugeth family was dealt with. Through pledging in the 16th and 17th centuries, members of the Barkóczy and Révay families became landlords. In 1600 a tax was due for a total of 21 houses, at that time the village had a rectory, a church and a school. In 1623 a fire devastated part of the village. In 1828 there were 70 houses and 502 inhabitants, whose main sources of income were agriculture, livestock and weaving.
Until 1918, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Ondavské Matiašovce had 817 inhabitants, including 749 Slovaks , 43 Roma and four Czechs . 21 residents gave no information on ethnicity .
720 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church, 62 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, five residents to the Orthodox Church, three residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses and one resident each to the Apostolic Church and one resident of the Evangelical Church AB the denomination was not determined.
