Banské (Hungarian Bányapataka - until 1907 Bánszka ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 1,909 (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Vranov nad Topľou of, part Prešovský kraj belongs.
geography
The village is located on the eastern slope of the Slanské vrchy mountains in the valley of the Olšava river . The center of the village is at an altitude of 340 m nm and is 12 kilometers from Vranov nad Topľou and 37 kilometers from Košice .
history
Banské was first mentioned in writing in 1397 as Banyapathaka , which indicates extensive mining. Originally the village belonged to the royal estate, at the end of the 14th century it became part of the Rozgonyi family and was later part of the Čičava and Vranov castle estates . After the end of the Middle Ages, the importance of mining slowly declined; In 1787 there were 80 houses and 608 inhabitants who were employed in forestry, charcoal burning, scribbling and weaving. The last significant landowners came from the Andrássy dynasty, who ran a large forest enterprise in the surrounding forests until the 20th century.
