Vyšný žipov (until 1948 Slovak "Slovak Žipov"; Hungarian Tapolyizsép - to 1888 Tótizsép ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 1,147 (December 31, 2019), which in Okres Vranov nad Topľou of, part Prešovský kraj lies and belongs to the traditional Zemplín landscape .
geography
The community is located in the Topľatal at the transition from the eastern Slovak hill country to the Lower Beskids . The center of the village is at an altitude of 155 m nm and is 12 kilometers from Vranov nad Topľou .
Neighboring communities are Skrabské and Petkovce in the north, Michalok in the east, briefly Merník in the southeast, Jastrabie nad Topľou and Hlinné in the south and Čierne nad Topľou in the west.
The counterpart by name is Nižný Žipov in Okres Trebišov, about 55 kilometers away .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1363 as Kysisop and initially belonged to the Skrabské estate, later that of the Čičava Castle . In 1828 there were 64 houses and 487 inhabitants who were employed in forestry, agriculture and as carters. During the Eastern Slovak Peasant Uprising , the rebels plundered the country palace of the landowner Eduard Bujanovics.
Until 1918, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.
population
According to the 2011 census, Vyšný Žipov had 1205 inhabitants, including 1139 Slovaks, 41 Roma, two Ukrainians and one each Magyar and Czech. 21 residents gave no information in this regard. 618 residents supported the Evangelical Church AB, 425 residents the Roman Catholic Church, 88 residents the Greek Catholic Church, 23 residents the Jehovah's Witnesses, four residents the Orthodox Church and one resident the Reformed Church. 14 residents had no denomination and 32 residents had no denomination.
