Tovarné (1965-1973 "Tovarné"; Hungarian Tavarna ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 986 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which in Okres Vranov nad Topľou of, part kraj Prešovský lies and traditional landscape Zemplín belongs .

geography

The community is located on the northern edge of the Eastern Slovak Lowlands , which merges into the Lower Beskids here . It is located on the right bank of the Ondavka , which takes a tributary here and shortly thereafter flows into the Ondava itself . The center of the village is at an altitude of 140  m nm and is ten kilometers from Vranov nad Topľou .

Neighboring municipalities are Ondavské Matiašovce and Štefanovce in the north, Hudcovce in the east, Tovarnianska Polianka in the southeast, Kladzany in the south and Sedliská in the west.

history

Tovarné Church

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1479 as Thavarna (other sources speak of the year 1215) and was part of the manor of Humenné and thus also owned by the Drugeth family . In 1598 part of the family Révay and in the 17th century the whole place to the Hadik-Barkóczy family . In 1557 the village had a total of eight portals , in 1715 18 abandoned and nine inhabited households. Tovarné suffered from an earthquake in 1778, in which, among other things, the country castle collapsed. In 1828 there were 61 houses and 462 inhabitants who lived from agriculture and fruit growing. In 1832 the country palace was rebuilt, this time in the classical style, and wings were added in 1851.

Until 1918, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. In World War II, Tovarné was destroyed during the fighting in Slovakia; the country palace was not rebuilt after the war.

population

According to the 2011 census, 1042 inhabitants lived in Tovarné, of which 985 were Slovaks, eleven Russians, seven Ukrainians, six Roma, three Czechs and one each Magyar and Russian. 28 residents gave no information in this regard. 770 inhabitants supported the Roman Catholic Church, 159 inhabitants joined the Greek Catholic Church, 29 inhabitants joined the Evangelical Church AB and 22 inhabitants joined the Orthodox Church. 16 residents were without a denomination and the denomination of 46 residents was not determined.
