Čičava (Hungarian Csicsóka ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 1,365 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which in Okres Vranov nad Topľou , part of kraj Prešovský lies and traditional landscape Zemplín belongs.
geography
The municipality is located in the north-western foothills of the Eastern Slovak Lowlands , mainly on the left bank of the Čičava stream . The municipality has the character of a hilly country with heights of 137 m nm to 235 m nm. The town center is at an altitude of 144 m nm and is five kilometers from Vranov nad Topľou .
Neighboring municipalities are Vyšný Kazimír in the north, Sedliská in the east, Vranov nad Topľou in the south, Nižný Kručov in the south-west, Komárany in the west and Merník in the north-west.
history
Čičava was first mentioned in writing in 1270 as Chychywa . The history of the place is closely connected with the estate of the nearby Čičava Castle and belonged to the Rozgonyi family and then to Báthory until the 15th century . In 1557 the village had three portals . In the course of the urban reforms of Maria Theresa, the village came to the powerful regional landowner Sándor Szirmay . In 1828 there were 36 houses and 267 inhabitants who were employed in charcoal burning, agriculture and as carters.
Until 1918, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Čičava had 1,192 inhabitants, including 590 Slovaks, 518 Roma, three Russians, two Czechs and one Magyar. 78 residents gave no information in this regard. 736 residents committed to the Greek Catholic Church, 313 residents to the Roman Catholic Church, 28 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, six residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses and one resident each to the Evangelical Methodist Church and the Orthodox Church. 24 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 83 residents was not determined.
