Sačurov ( Hungarian Szacsúr ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia .

geography

The municipality is located on the Topľa , just before its confluence with the Ondava , about 40 kilometers northeast of Košice . To the west of the village rises the Slanské vrchy mountain range with the Strechový vrch (777 meters above sea level). The flat relief around Sačurov belongs to the East Slovak lowlands . The town of Vranov nad Topľou is located about six kilometers north of Sačurov.

Sačurov is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Vranov nad Topľou in the north, Dlhé Klčovo in the east, Sečovská Polianka in the south, Cabov in the southwest, Davidov in the west and Kamenná Poruba in the northwest.

Almost all of the Slovaks live in the Sačurov municipality . 65% of the population profess the Roman Catholic Church . 32% are Greek Catholic Christians.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1399. Until 1882 the place Podčičva (then in Hungarian Csicsvaalja ) , which has since belonged to Sedliská, was part of the municipality.

Sačurov is on the I / 79 trunk road , which leads from Vranov nad Topľou via Trebišov to the Slovenské Nové Mesto / Sátoraljaújhely border crossing and which is part of the transit route from south-eastern Poland to Hungary .
