Čierne nad Topľou (until 1927 in Slovak "Čierne" or "Čarné" - until 1948 "Černé"; Hungarian Felsőfeketepatak - until 1902 Feketepatak ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia .
The municipality is located on the middle reaches of the Topľa , a right tributary of the Ondava . After the mountain breakthrough between Giraltovce and Hanušovce nad Topľou, the Topľatal is already wider here and is used intensively for agriculture. The Slanské vrchy mountain range rises southwest of the village with its highest mountain Šimonka (1092 meters above sea level).
One of the country's most important east-west connections runs through Čierne nad Topľou: trunk road 18 from Prešov via Vranov nad Topľou to Michalovce . The municipality's train station is on the Prešov – Michalovce railway line, which runs parallel to the trunk road. In the northeast of the municipality there is an approximately three hectare industrial park (hospodársky dvor).
Čierne nad Topľou is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Skrabské in the northeast, Vyšný Žipov in the southeast, Hermanovce nad Topľou in the southwest and Bystré in the northwest.
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1399. The Protestant church dates from the 17th century.
Almost all of the Slovaks live in Čierne nad Topľou . The population has decreased slightly since 1991. 78% of the population profess to the Protestant Church , 17% stated that their denomination was Roman Catholic .
