Kamenná Poruba (up to 1927 "Poruba", Hungarian Kővágó - until 1907 Kőporuba ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 1,490 (December 31, 2019), which in Okres Vranov nad Topľou of, part kraj Prešovský located, and belongs to the traditional Zemplín landscape .

geography

The municipality is located in the north-western part of the Eastern Slovakia lowlands at the foot of the Slanské vrchy Mountains . The municipality is traversed by the rivers Rakovec and Trnava in the Topľa catchment area and is largely deforested and converted into arable land, pastures and gardens. The center of the village is at an altitude of 153  m nm and is ten kilometers from Vranov nad Topľou .

Neighboring municipalities are Vranov nad Topľou in the north and east, Sačurov in the south, Davidov in the south-west and Vechec in the north-west.

history

The place was created under German law in a forest clearing and was first mentioned in writing in 1368 as Stephanburbaya . Other historical names are Kewporuba (1511), Kamenna Poruba (1598) and Kamen Poruba (1773). The first owners came from the Rozgonyi family , which lasted until the 16th century. Later landowners included the Báthory , Sóos and Pethö families . In 1828 there were 102 houses and 709 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture.

Until 1918, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

population

According to the 2011 census, Kamenná Poruba had 1261 inhabitants, of whom 779 were Slovaks , 418 Roma , three Czechs and one German and one Ukrainian . 59 inhabitants did not provide any information on ethnicity .

514 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 327 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, 13 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, two residents to the Orthodox Church and one resident each to the Reformed Church and the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. 351 inhabitants were without religious denomination and the denomination of 52 inhabitants was not determined.
