Leles ( Hungarian Lelesz ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia , with a population of 1,795 (December 31, 2019), which for the Okres Trebišov , a circle of kraj Košický belongs.
geography
The municipality is located in the eastern Slovak lowlands not far from the Latorica River near the Ukrainian border. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 112 m nm and is eight kilometers from Kráľovský Chlmec and 13 kilometers from Veľké Kapušany .
Administratively, the municipality is divided into the main town Leles and the part Kapoňa, which was incorporated in 1941 (Hungarian Kaponya ).
Neighboring communities are Veľké Kapušany in the north, Kapušianske Kľačany in the northeast, Bačka in the east and southeast, Kráľovský Chlmec in the southwest, Poľany in the west and Čičarovce in the northwest.
history
Leles was first mentioned in writing in 1190 when a Premonstratensian monastery was built here. The place developed as a market town from the 13th century. In 1828 there are 224 houses and 1609 inhabitants.
The place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1919 and then became part of Czechoslovakia . Due to the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was again in Hungary from 1938 to 1945.
