Hrčeľ (until 1948 Slovak "Gerčeľ"; Hungarian Gercsely ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 1,095 inhabitants (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Trebišov of, a circle kraj Košický heard. It is part of the traditional Zemplín landscape .
geography
The municipality is located in the south-western part of the Eastern Slovak Lowlands in the valley of the Chlmec river, a little north of the Zemplínske vrchy mountain range . The center of the village is at an altitude of 135 m nm and is 13 kilometers from Trebišov .
Neighboring municipalities are Zemplínsky Branč in the north, Novosad in the east, Kysta in the southeast, Veľká Tŕňa in the south and Veľaty in the west.
history
Hrčeľ was first mentioned in writing in 1332 as Gertschol and already had a parish. In 1410, when the village was called Gerchel , it belonged to the Toronay family ; later there were several changes of ownership and was owned by the Perényi family, among others . In 1557 the village had seven portals , in 1715 21 abandoned and seven inhabited households. In 1787 the village had 60 houses and 417 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 69 houses and 506 inhabitants who were employed as charcoal burners and farmers. In 1831 villagers took part in the East Slovak Peasant Uprising .
Until 1918/1919, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. On the basis of the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was in Hungary again from 1938 to 1944.
population
According to the 2011 census, 901 inhabitants lived in Hrčeľ, of whom 834 were Slovaks , 49 were Roma and one each was Magyar , Pole and Russian . One resident indicated a different ethnic group and 14 residents gave no information about the ethnic group .
483 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 156 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, 46 residents to the Reformed Church, four residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses and one resident to the Orthodox Church. 170 residents had no denomination and 41 residents had no denomination.
