Malé Trakany (until 1948 Slovak "Malý Tarkan", Hungarian Kistarkány ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with a population of 1,034 (December 31, 2019), which for Okres Trebišov of, a circle kraj Košický heard. It is part of the traditional Zemplín landscape .

geography

The municipality is located in the south-eastern corner of the Eastern Slovakian Lowlands in the Medzibodrožie (Hungarian Bodrogköz ) region, precisely at the border triangle Slovakia- Ukraine - Hungary .

It has practically grown together with the neighboring village of Veľké Trakany . The 11.5 km² large municipal area is partly characterized by arable land, towards the southeast by pastures, oxbow lakes of the Tisza and the river itself on the border with Hungary. The center of the village lies at an altitude of 111  m nm and is two and a half kilometers from Čierna nad Tisou , 14 kilometers from Kráľovský Chlmec and 67 kilometers from Trebišov (both road distances).

Neighboring communities are Čierna nad Tisou in the north, Čierna in the northeast, Solomonowo (UA) and Záhony (H) in the east, Tiszabezdéd in the southeast and Veľké Trakany in the south and west.

history

The history of the place up to the 14th century is largely identical to that of Veľké Trakany; as a separate place it first appeared in 1339 (as Kystarkyan ). The village belonged to various small aristocrats, in 1417 the Perényi family . In 1557 three portals are recorded in a tax register; the 16th century was characterized by depopulation due to cholera epidemics and Turkish wars. The village was settled again around 1620, but numerous floods often affected it. Only the regulation of the Tisza in the 19th century put an end to regular floods. In 1828 there were 44 houses and 338 inhabitants who lived from agriculture, fruit growing and viticulture.

Until 1918/1919, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. On the basis of the First Vienna Arbitration Award , he was in Hungary again from 1938 to 1944.

According to the 2011 census, Malé Trakany had 1156 inhabitants, of whom 998 were Magyars, 128 Slovaks, eight Roma and one Russian and one Ukrainian. 20 residents gave no information in this regard. 524 residents committed themselves to the Roman Catholic Church, 444 residents to the Reformed Church, 84 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, four residents to the Evangelical Church AB and one resident each to the Jehovah's Witnesses, the Orthodox Church and the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. 34 residents had no denomination and 63 residents had no denomination.
