Záhony [ ˈzaːhoɲ ] is a Hungarian city ​​in the district of the same name in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County . In 1989 the community received city status.

Geographical location

Záhony is located in north-eastern Hungary on the left bank of the Tisza , which forms the border with Ukraine . Here the Tisza changes its direction of flow coming from the east to the south-west. Neighboring communities are Zsurk and Győröcske . On the other bank of the Tisza are the Ukrainian towns of Solomonowo and Tschop .

In the city there is a border crossing for road and rail traffic, formerly to the Soviet Union , now to Ukraine.
