history

Tuzsér and the surrounding area were inhabited in the Bronze Age, as evidenced by artefacts found during excavations. Here also stood one of several fortresses on the upper reaches of the Tisza. The oldest documents relating to Tuzsér date from 1212. The area was devastated by the Mongol storm (1241). After the destruction of the village of Kálonga, the inhabitants fled to the wooded area with watercourses. They built the Tuzsér settlement. In 1270 the treasurer Renold received the place as a fiefdom from King Stephan V , which Ladislaus IV confirmed in 1273. In the course of time, the owner families of the place have changed several times. At the first Hungarian census between 1784 and 1787 Franz Lónyay was registered as the owner. Around 1900 the village was owned by Countess Margit Forgách. At that time, six graves from the time of the conquest were found near the former ramparts .

Until the Treaty of Trianon, the place belonged to Szabolcs County , then to Szabolcs és Ung County . With the reform of 1950 Tuzsér became part of Szabolcs-Szatmár County, which was renamed Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg in 1990 .
