history

War memorial on the Dargov Pass

Dargov was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1458 as a dorgo and belonged to different owners: the noble families Semsey and Séchy , to the estate of Sečovce and partly to that of Trebišov. In the 19th century the Andrássy , Berzeviczy and Forgách families were the most important owners. In 1828 there were 40 houses and 296 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture and in the surrounding forests. Up until the 20th century there was an important hunting ground that belonged to the Forgáchs.

Until 1918, the place in Semplin County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. During the fighting at the front in World War II , the Wehrmacht burned the village down in November 1944, then there were heavy fighting between the Red Army and the defending Wehrmacht on the Dargov Pass until January 1945 .
