The Dargov Pass ( Slovak Dargovský priesmyk ) is a low mountain pass ( 473  m nm ) in the Slanské vrchy in eastern Slovakia . It separates the Kaschau basin from the eastern Slovakian lowlands and lies between the villages of Košický Klečenov on the west side and the eponymous Dargov on the east side.

The pass became famous in Slovakia through fighting at the front during World War II . From the end of 1944 to January 1945 the Red Army fought against the Wehrmacht . On January 18, 1945, the Red Army managed to break through the German line of defense and clear the way to Košice after the Red Army had lost more than 20,000 soldiers in the battle. Today there is a war memorial on the pass. The battle hall of fame is currently inaccessible. Furthermore, the name of a part of Košice, Dargovských hrdinov ([settlement] of the Dargov heroes) , reminds of this battle.

The trunk road I / 19 (part of European routes 50 and 58 ), which connects Košice with the Ukrainian border at Vyšné Nemecké / Uzhhorod , and the long-distance hiking trail E3 lead over the pass .
