The Cesta I. triedy 19 ( Slovak for '1st order street 19'), I / 19 for short , is a 1st order street in Slovakia . It begins in Košice and runs generally east through Sečovce , Michalovce and Sobrance to the Slovak-Ukrainian border crossing Vyšné Nemecké - Uzhhorod . It is part of the European roads E 50 and E 58 .

The I / 19 was built on August 1, 2015 from a section of the 1st order street 50 , which was also completely closed.

course

The I / 19 begins in Košice east of the city center at the Prešovská-Sečovská junction with the PR3 . Then it runs through the Košická kotlina basin towards Košické Oľšany and Bidovce , up to the Dargov Pass in the Slanské vrchy . It then descends into the Eastern Slovak Lowlands and passes Sečovce, Trhovište before reaching Michalovce. Then it leads not far from the south bank of Zemplínska šírava and within sight of the Vihorlat Mountains further east towards Sobrance. It ends behind Vyšné Nemecké on the border with Ukraine (also the external border of the EU and the Schengen area ), where it merges into the M 08 , which in turn ends after Uzhhorod at the M 06 .

State of development

Except for the beginning in Košice, I / 19 is a non-directional street. There are additional lanes in Košice on the slope leading to the Dargovských hrdinov district , on the slopes around Košické Oľšany and on both sides of the Dargov Pass. In the long term, the road is to be replaced by the D1 motorway , which so far (as of the end of 2019) has only been implemented as far as Bidovce. A continuation to the Ukrainian border is being planned.
