The Trebišov – Vranov nad Topľou railway is a regional railway connection in Slovakia . It leads from Trebišov to Vranov nad Topľou in the eastern Slovak lowlands .
history
The line was licensed by the Hungarian Ministry of Commerce on April 29, 1903 for Ignác Pallós from Budapest. Part of the concession was also a possible extension of the line to Kapušany on the local line Prešov – Bardejov. Ignác Pallós founded the Tőketerebes – Varranó helyi érdekú vasut (local railway Tőketerebes – Varranó; Slovak: Miestna železnica Trebišov – Vranov ) as the operating company . The line was opened on December 24, 1903. The construction costs totaled 2,000,000 crowns.
After the break-up of Austria-Hungary in October 1918 and the establishment of the new state of Czechoslovakia , the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) took over the management on behalf of the owners. From the 1930s onwards, the ČSD began using modern motorized trains in tourist traffic, which enabled both a compaction of the timetable and a significant reduction in travel times. The 1938 summer timetable listed seven pairs of trains, six of which were motorized trains.
On December 2nd, 2003 the ŽSR stopped the scheduled travel due to insufficient occupancy. The previous annual timetable from 2002 recorded eight pairs of passenger trains on the Trebišov – Vranov nad Topľou route and ten in the opposite direction. The travel time between Trebišov and Vranov nad Topľou was about 50 minutes.
