The Trebišov – Slivník railway is an electrified railway connection in Slovakia . It runs from Trebišov parallel to the broad-gauge Uzhhorod – Haniska railway and joins the Košice – Čierna nad Tisou railway at Slivník (formerly: Červený dvor junction) .

history

In the 1970s, the volume of traffic on the cross-border route Košice – Čierna nad Tisou reached such a level that an expansion of the alternative route via Veľké Kapušany to Uzhhorod was necessary. In this context, the Trebišov – Červený dvor railway line was built in the early 1980s parallel to the existing broad-gauge Uzhhorod – Haniska line and opened on November 7, 1985. After that, the line (like the entire connection to the Soviet border near Maťovce) was electrified with 3000 volts DC. Electric rail operations began on January 26, 1989.

Initially only used for freight traffic, since 1990 passenger trains have also been running. Initially, only the express trains in the direction of Humenné were run over the route, later also passenger trains. The tourist facilities in the Čeľovce siding were established in 1996.

In the 2019 annual timetable, regional express trains (REX) on the Košice – Humenné route, which also stop in Čeľovce, run every two hours. There are also two long-distance trains on the Prague – Humenné and Bratislava – Humenné routes.
