Fekišovce (Hungarian Fekésháza ) is a municipality in the far east of Slovakia with 309 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Sobrance , part of the Košický kraj .

geography

The municipality is located in the east of the Eastern Slovakian lowlands not far from the eastern bank of Zemplínska šírava and is a typical street village . The center of the village lies at an altitude of 110  m nm and is eight kilometers from Sobrance and 14 kilometers from Michalovce .

Neighboring communities are Úbrež in the north and east, Veľké Revištia in the south-east, Závadka in the south-west and Hnojné in the north-west.

history

Fekišovce was first mentioned in writing in 1391 as Fekeshaza and was then owned by the Fekes family , later it became part of the domain of Großmichel (today Michalovce). In the 18th century the Bujanovits family owned goods in the village. In 1730, the residents built a wooden church that has not been preserved. In 1828 there were 38 houses and 327 inhabitants, whose main source of income was agriculture. Many residents emigrated around the middle of the 19th century.

The place in Ung County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia, or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Fekišovce had 308 inhabitants, of whom 293 were Slovaks , two Russians and one Ukrainian . 12 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .

194 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, 55 residents supported the Greek Catholic Church, 13 residents supported the Evangelical Church AB, 11 residents supported the Orthodox Church and seven residents supported the Jehovah's Witnesses. 12 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 16 residents was not determined.
