Kristy (up to the 19th century Slovak "Kríž" and others; Hungarian Kereszt ) is a municipality in the far east of Slovakia with 317 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to Okres Sobrance , part of Košický kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the east of the East Slovakian lowlands between the canalized brooks Olšinský potok and Orechovský potok , near the Ukrainian border. The town center is at an altitude of 108 m nm and is eight kilometers from Sobrance .
Neighboring communities are Porostov in the north, very briefly Orechová in the northeast, Sejkov in the east, Jenkovce in the south, Tašuľa in the southwest and Svätuš in the west.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1333 as Kerezthwt and was first owned by low nobility, later it was part of the estate of Großmichel - Tibava . In 1427 a total of 18 porta are recorded. Due to a flight of subjects between 1715 and 1720, the village became almost deserted for some time when only one household remained. In 1828 there were 32 houses and 289 inhabitants.
The place in Ung County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia, or now Slovakia. 1939-1944 he was once again part of Hungary as a result of the Slovak-Hungarian War .
population
According to the 2011 census, there were 312 residents in Kristy, including 291 Slovaks and five Roma and five Czechs each. Eleven residents gave no information in this regard. 98 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church, 86 residents to the Greek Catholic Church, 79 residents to the Reformed Church, 12 residents to the Apostolic Church, two residents each to the Evangelical Church AB, the Congregational Church and the Orthodox Church and one resident to one other denomination. Ten residents had no denomination and the denomination of 20 residents was not determined.
