Nižné Nemecké (German Unterdeutschdorf , Hungarian Alsónémeti , Ukrainian Нижнє Німецьке ) is a small community in the far east of Slovakia on the border with Ukraine .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1353. From 1405 the place was called Kuzepnempty. The place has been called Nižné Nemecké since 1920, because most of the inhabitants were Hungarians or Germans.
During the Slovak-Hungarian War in 1939 this village was the target of Hungarian air raids.
In 2012, a 700 m long tunnel was discovered on the border with Ukraine, which was used to smuggle cigarettes. As a result, the EU had to cope with an estimated EUR 50 million loss in tobacco tax annually.
Culture and sport
There is a library and a soccer field in the village.
