Border between Slovakia and Ukraine
The border between Slovakia and Ukraine is a land border in Eastern Europe .
course
The 97 km long common border lies in the east of Slovakia and the south-west of the Ukraine . It separates the two states, beginning on the Kremenez mountain , at the top of which is the triangle of Ukraine, Poland and Slovakia. From here it runs through the Forest Carpathians in a southerly direction, west along the capital of the Transcarpathian Oblast, Uzhhorod , until it ends at the river Tisza , near the Hungarian town of Záhony , at the border triangle Slovakia- Hungary- Ukraine.
history
The border initially separated Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Ukrainian SSR . It emerged after the end of the Second World War , when Czechoslovakia rose again within the borders from the time before the Munich Agreement , with the exception of the Carpathian Ukraine , which was added to the Soviet Union and incorporated into the Ukrainian SSR. After the collapse of the Soviet Union , the now independent Ukraine emerged on one side of the border and on the Czechoslovakian side, after their division in 1993, the now independent, independent state of Slovakia.
After Slovakia became a member of the European Union on May 1, 2004 as part of the EU's eastward expansion , the border is also an external border of the EU .
