Life

Schramm was active as a water polo goalkeeper , in 1950 he was part of the first year of study at the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig . After completing his studies (the subject of his diploma thesis in 1952 was the "methodology of the elementary school of water polo") he worked as a sports teacher and trainer, from 1955 he headed the scientific cabinet of the SC DHfK Leipzig association . From 1959 Schramm worked at the DHfK research center, he also worked at the Research Institute for Physical Culture and Sport (FKS) and was a university professor for swimming. Among other things, he researched swimming and examined the crawl technique

In 1969 he completed his doctoral thesis and from the same year headed DHfK Section III (swimming, winter sports, water driving, athletics, cycling, speed skating, weight lifting, shooting sports) at the University of Physical Culture. In 1980 his habilitation was accepted, the title of his thesis was "Hydrodynamic questions of sport swimming from a sport-methodical point of view with special consideration of swimming resistance". As a result of the completed habilitation, Schramm worked as a full professor for theory and methodology of swimming.

Schramm headed the collective of authors of the textbook "Sportschwimmen", which came out in 1987 and deals with swimming technique, basic education and training in high-performance sport for young people, taking into account the high-performance area.

With the dissolution of the German University of Physical Culture in 1990, Schramm retired, and a year later he published the article "To increase basic general strength requirements and their improved implementation in special performances in young swimming athletes" in the Leipzig sports science articles.

As a functionary, Schramm was involved in the German Swimming Association of the GDR (DSSV) and, after reunification, in the Saxon Swimming Association , where he became president and later honorary president.
