Border between Moldova and Ukraine

The border between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine is a state border in Eastern Europe . It runs between the southwest of Ukraine and the north, east and south of the Republic of Moldova . The central segment of the border is the de facto border between Ukraine and the unrecognized Transnistria, which has broken away from the Republic of Moldova .

The 1,222 km long state border between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine runs 955 km overland and 267 km along rivers. The de facto border between Ukraine and Transnistria is 454 km long.

There are 67 border crossings along the Moldovan-Ukrainian border, 25 of them in the central (Transnistrian) segment.

The border runs from the (northern) border triangle Romania- Ukraine-Moldova in the northwest of the Republic of Moldova near Criva Rajon Briceni , near the Ukrainian village and border crossing Mamalyha . From there it runs east until it meets the Dniester at the village of Kosliw , which it initially follows to the east and from the border crossing Mohyliw-Podilskyj - Otaci to the southeast. At the village Hruşcă 454 km long border section between Transnistria and Ukraine, in the southeast, near the village begins Purcari in ştefan vodă ends. A few kilometers further south, it turns west at Palanca and now runs through the historic Bessarabian region of Budschak . At the Moldovan Rajon Basarabeasca it turns south and runs to the (southern) border triangle Romania-Ukraine-Moldau on the Danube near Giurgiuleşti near the Romanian city Galați and the Ukrainian city Reni .

history

In August 1940, the border between the Soviet Union Republics of the Moldavian SSR and the Ukrainian SSR was formed, which remained after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 as the border between the independent states of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.

Since November 30, 2005, the European Union has been supporting the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine with the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) in monitoring their common border. The Mission's mandate has already been renewed five times, with the current mandate running until November 30, 2020.
