The Basarabeasca Rajon ( Russian район Басарабяска ) is a Rajon in the Republic of Moldova . The capital of the Rajons is Basarabeasca .

geography

The Rajon is located in the southeast of the country on the border with Odessa Oblast in Ukraine . Within Moldova, the Rajon borders the Gagauz Autonomous Region and the Cimișlia Rajon .

In addition to the capital, the Basarabeasca district consists of the municipalities of Abaclia, Bașcalia, Carabetovca, Iordanovca, Iserlia and Sadaclia.

history

The Basarabeasca Rajon has existed since 2003. Until February 2003, the area belonged to the now dissolved Lăpușna district (Județul Lăpușna) together with today's Cimișlia, Hîncești and Leova Rajons .

population

Population development

1959 lived in the area of ​​today's Rajons 24,814 inhabitants. In the decades that followed, the number of inhabitants increased steadily: from 27,776 in 1970 to 29,889 in 1979 to 31,612 in 1989. By 2004, as in all of Moldova, the population of the Rajon fell, which was 28,978 in that year. In 2014 it was 23,012.

Ethnic groups

According to the 2004 census, Moldovans make up the proportionately largest ethnic group in Basarabeasca Raion with 69.8%, followed by Russians with 8.9%, Gagauz with 7.7%, Ukrainians with 6.7%, and Bulgarians with 5 , 3% and the Romanians with 0.2%. The proportion of the population belonging to the Moldovan ethnic group is lower than in the whole of Moldova, where they make up 75.8%.
