The Glodeni Raion is a Raion in the Republic of Moldova . The capital of the Rajons is Glodeni .

geography

The Rajon is located in the northwest of the country on the border with Romania along the Prut River . The neighboring districts within Moldova are Făleşti and Rîşcani .

The 6,032 hectare nature reserve Pădurea Domnească in the Glodeni district on the Prut is the largest nature reserve in Moldova.

history

The Glodeni Rajon has existed since 2003. Until February 2003, the area belonged to the now dissolved Bălți District (Județul Bălți).

population

Population development

1959 lived in the area of ​​today's Rajons 53,964 inhabitants. Over the next twenty years, the population increased to 61,674 in 1970 and 65,555 in 1979. While the population increased nationwide until the 1989 census, it decreased slightly in Glodeni Raion to 64,677. Following the national trend, the population of the Rajon fell to 60,975 by 2004. In 2014 it was 51,306.

Ethnic groups

According to the 2004 census, Moldovans make up the largest ethnic group in Glodeni Raion with 76.0%, followed by Ukrainians with 19.5%, which is significantly higher than the national proportion of 8.4%. Smaller minorities are the Russians with 2.8% and the Romanians with 0.5% and the Gagauz and Bulgarians with 0.1% each.
