The Dondușeni Raion is a raion in the Republic of Moldova . The Rajons capital is Dondușeni .
geography
The Rajon is located in the north of the country and has a narrow section of the border with Ukraine along the Dniester River . The neighboring districts are Drochia , Edineț , Ocnița , Rîșcani and Soroca .

population
Population development
In 1959, 54,386 inhabitants lived in the area of today's Rajons. By 1970 the population rose to 57,467. Contrary to the national development, the number of inhabitants fell continuously in the following three censuses: from 57,092 in 1979 to 53,902 in 1989 to 46,442 in 2004 - most recently well below the value of 1959. By 2014 it fell further to 37,856 .
Ethnic groups
According to the 2004 census, the Moldovans make up the proportionately largest ethnic group in Dondușeni Raion with 80.3%, followed by the Ukrainians with 12.7% and the Russians with 5.8%. Smaller minorities are the Romanians with 0.5% and the Gagauz and Bulgarians with 0.1% each.
Culture and sights
The largest dendrological park in Moldova is located in Țaul village . Around the park are several buildings erected at the beginning of the 20th century as well as an agricultural school founded in 1963, one of the oldest universities in the country.
