The Criuleni Rajon is a Rajon in the Republic of Moldova . The capital of the Rajons is Criuleni .

geography

The Rajon is located in the center of the country. It borders on the municipality of Chișinău , the breakaway region of Transnistria and the Rajons Anenii Noi , Orhei and Strășeni .

history

The Rajon Criuleni has existed since 2003. Until February 2003, the area belonged together with today's Rajons Anenii Noi, Ialoveni and Strășeni to the now dissolved district of Chișinău (Județul Chișinău).

population

Population development

1959 lived in the area of ​​today's Rajons 56,982 inhabitants. In the decades that followed, the number of inhabitants rose steadily: from 64,954 in 1970 to 68,154 in 1979 to 71,351 in 1989. While the population of all of Moldova fell until the next census in 2004, it rose further to 72,254 in Criuleni district . In 2014 it was 70,648.

Ethnic groups

According to the 2004 census, the Moldovans represent by far the largest ethnic group with 92.8%, while 75.8% of the nationwide describe themselves as Moldovans. Smaller minorities in the Rajon Criuleni are the Ukrainians with 3.7%, the Romanians with 1.6% and the Russians with 1.4% and the Gagauz and Bulgarians with 0.1% each.
